Ocean Freight Transit Times: China to Middle East & Southeast Asia (2026)

Ocean Freight Transit Times: China to the Middle East & Southeast Asia (2026)

A planning reference for contractors and importers: how long a container of insulated aluminum Great Wall panels takes to reach your port — and how to back-calculate your order date so panels arrive on schedule.

Read this honestly: Transit times are typical ranges for direct and common transshipment routings from North China (Tianjin/Qingdao). Actual time varies with origin port, carrier, season (Chinese New Year and peak season add delay) and transshipment. South China origins (Shenzhen/Ningbo) are often a few days faster to Southeast Asia. Always confirm the schedule with your freight forwarder for a specific sailing.

Middle East Ports

Destination Port Country Typical Transit
Jeddah Saudi Arabia (Red Sea) 22–28 days
Dammam Saudi Arabia (Gulf) 24–30 days
Jebel Ali UAE (Dubai) 20–26 days
Hamad Qatar 22–28 days
Shuwaikh Kuwait 24–30 days
Sohar Oman 18–24 days
Khalifa Bin Salman Bahrain 24–30 days

Southeast Asia Ports

Destination Port Country Typical Transit
Ho Chi Minh (Cat Lai) Vietnam 8–14 days
Hai Phong Vietnam 9–15 days
Jakarta (Tanjung Priok) Indonesia 10–16 days
Surabaya Indonesia 12–18 days
Laem Chabang Thailand 9–14 days
Port Klang Malaysia 8–13 days
Manila Philippines 7–12 days

The Number That Actually Matters: Total Lead Time

Transit is only one piece. To know when you must place your order, add production and customs clearance:

Total lead time =
  ① Production 20–35 days
② Ocean transit (from tables above)
  ③ Customs clearance 3–7 days

Example — Riyadh project, panels needed 1 September:
Customs at Dammam ~5 days → arrive port ~25 Aug → transit ~27 days → sail by ~29 Jul → production ~28 days → place order by ~1 July.

Rule of thumb: for Gulf projects, order ~2 months before you need panels on site; for Southeast Asia, ~6–8 weeks.

What Adds Delay (Plan Around These)

  • Chinese New Year (late Jan–Feb): factories close 2–3 weeks; book well ahead
  • Peak season (Aug–Oct): space tight, rates up, occasional rollovers
  • Custom colours: non-stock RAL adds a dedicated coating run to production
  • Documentation: first-time SABER (Saudi) registration runs in parallel but start it early
  • Transshipment ports: indirect routings add 3–7 days vs direct sailings
