In humid tropical climates – Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines – condensation under a roof is a real concern. Water dripping from the ceiling damages stored goods and corrodes structures. Insulated aluminum Great Wall panels are one of the best defences against condensation, but only if specified and installed correctly. Here is how it works.
Why Condensation Happens
Condensation forms when warm, humid air meets a surface colder than its dew point. With a bare metal roof, the underside cools at night and warm interior air condenses on it, then drips. The hotter and more humid the climate, the worse the effect – which is exactly the situation across Southeast Asia.
How Great Wall Insulated Panels Solve It
A Great Wall panel sandwiches a PIR foam core between two aluminum faces. The foam keeps the interior face of the panel close to the indoor air temperature, so it rarely drops below the dew point. No cold surface means no condensation. This is a structural advantage a single-skin metal sheet simply cannot match – even with separate insulation added later.
Specification for Humid Climates
| Factor | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Core thickness | 75-100mm PIR (more for air-conditioned interiors) |
| Core type | PIR, closed-cell, density ≥42 kg/m³ (resists moisture absorption) |
| Joints | Sealed tongue-and-groove with butyl tape – no air leaks |
| Faces | PVDF aluminum both sides (interior face resists corrosion) |
Installation Details That Matter
- Seal all panel joints with butyl tape – unsealed gaps let humid air reach cold spots
- Seal penetrations (vents, pipes, skylights) thoroughly
- Provide ridge or eave ventilation for non-conditioned buildings to move humid air out
- Avoid thermal bridges at fixings – use insulated fasteners where specified
A closed-cell PIR Great Wall panel, properly sealed, is the most reliable way to keep a tropical warehouse or factory dry overhead.
