How Many m² of Great Wall Panels Fit in a 40ft Container?

One of the first numbers buyers need when costing a Great Wall aluminum panel order is how much fits in a container. It determines your minimum order, your shipping cost per square metre, and whether you need one container or several. Here are realistic loading figures.

Loading by Panel Thickness (40HQ)

ThicknessApprox. m² per 40HQLimiting factor
50mm PIR1,300 – 1,500Volume
75mm PIR1,100 – 1,300Volume
100mm PIR900 – 1,100Volume
150mm PIR600 – 750Volume
200mm PIR450 – 550Volume

Great Wall panels are light (8-10 kg/m²), so a 40HQ container always fills up by volume long before it hits the ~26-ton weight limit. Thicker panels take more space per square metre, so fewer fit.

Why Panel Length Matters

The internal length of a 40HQ is about 12 metres, so panels up to ~11.8m load flat without issue. If your project needs longer panels, they cannot be shipped in a standard container and require special arrangements. Keeping panel lengths under 11.8m is the simplest way to keep freight cheap.

How Loading Affects Your Cost per m²

Ocean freight is charged per container, not per square metre. So a container packed with 1,300 m² of 75mm panel spreads the freight cost thinner than one holding 550 m² of 200mm panel. When comparing FOB versus landed cost, always divide the container freight by the actual m² loaded for your thickness.

Minimum Order

The standard minimum order for Great Wall aluminum panels is one 40HQ container. For a 100mm roof that is roughly 900-1,100 m² of finished roof area – enough for a mid-size warehouse. Mixed orders (e.g. roof + wall, or two thicknesses) can share one container.
