A pharmaceutical cleanroom is judged on things a normal warehouse never worries about: can you wipe the wall down without a single crevice catching residue, does the joint stay sealed under positive pressure, and can you prove the fire rating on paper. Insulated panels do the job — but the spec is stricter, and cutting corners here fails an audit, not just a buyer.

Hygienic, flush surfaces

The panel face has to be smooth and flush, with no exposed fasteners on the clean side. PVDF-coated aluminum is easy to clean and chemically resistant to the disinfectants used in pharma washdowns. Coved joints between wall and floor/ceiling are usually required so there is no 90-degree corner to trap contamination.

Sealed, airtight joints

Cleanrooms run at controlled pressure — positive to keep contaminants out, sometimes negative for containment. That only works if the envelope is airtight. The tongue-and-groove joints are sealed with food/pharma-grade sealant, and every penetration (ducts, pass-throughs, lights) is detailed and sealed. A leaky envelope means you cannot hold the pressure differential, and the room fails qualification.

Fire rating and core

Regulated facilities almost always carry fire requirements. Specify FM 4880 Class 1 PIR, or a rock wool A-grade non-combustible core where the authority demands it. Get the classification report with the panels.

Documentation is half the job

For a GMP facility, the paperwork is part of the deliverable: material certificates, core density and thermal test reports, fire classification, and surface/coating data so the validation team can sign off. A supplier who cannot produce this is not set up for pharma work.
