Sourcing insulated aluminum Great Wall panels from China offers significant cost advantages over European or Korean suppliers — but the quality range among Chinese manufacturers is wide. This checklist gives procurement managers and project contractors a practical framework for evaluating suppliers before placing an order.
1. Request Actual Material Test Reports (Not Spec Sheets)
Spec selection, factory vetting, documents, safe payment and red flags — one page to keep.
⬇ Download Buyer’s Guide (PDF)Any supplier can create a marketing spec sheet showing good numbers. What you want is third-party laboratory test reports for the actual production batch. Ask for: PIR core density test (should be ≥38 kg/m³), thermal conductivity test (λ ≤ 0.023 W/m·K), and aluminum alloy certification (mill certificate showing 3003 or 3004 composition). If a supplier cannot provide these documents, do not proceed.
2. Check Factory Registration
Request the supplier’s Chinese business license (营业执照 yíngyè zhízhào). Verify the registered address matches where production actually takes place. A legitimate manufacturer will have a registered business address in the same city as their factory — not a trading company address in Guangzhou with production claimed to be in Tianjin.
3. Request a Video Factory Tour
Before the era of video calls, verifying a factory remotely was difficult. Now it is straightforward — request a live WeChat or WhatsApp video tour of the production line. A genuine aluminum panel manufacturer should have: a continuous lamination line for bonding the PIR foam to the aluminum faces, a roll-forming machine for the Great Wall profile, and panel cutting and packaging equipment. If the supplier cannot show you this equipment, they are a trading company, not a manufacturer.
4. Order a Sample First
For any order above USD 20,000, the cost of a sample (50m²) is trivial. A sample shipment lets you verify: actual core thickness with a caliper, aluminum face gauge, coating adhesion (cross-hatch test), and profile dimensions. It also tests the supplier’s documentation quality and shipping process before the full order is at risk.
5. Specify SGS Pre-Shipment Inspection
SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) and Bureau Veritas offer pre-shipment inspection services at Chinese factories. The inspector visits the factory, verifies panel dimensions and quantities, performs coating adhesion tests, and issues a report before the container is sealed. Cost is typically 0.3–0.5% of the order value. For first-time suppliers or large orders, this cost is well justified.
6. Check Payment Terms and Trade History
Standard payment terms from a legitimate Chinese manufacturer are 30% deposit, 70% against copy of bill of lading. Be cautious of suppliers requesting 100% payment before production or before shipping — this is unusual and increases risk. A supplier with documented trade history (export records, existing client references) is lower risk than a new entrant.
7. Verify the HS Code They Intend to Declare
The HS code used on the commercial invoice affects your import duty rate and whether FTA certificates apply. Ask the supplier which HS code they will use on the invoice and packing list. Cross-check this with your customs broker before confirming the order — a mismatch between the declared code and the actual product can cause clearance delays or penalties.
8. Request References from Similar Projects
Ask for two or three reference contacts — buyers in your region who have imported from this supplier in the past 12 months. A legitimate supplier will provide these. If they cannot or will not, consider this a significant warning sign. When you contact references, ask specifically about: delivery time accuracy, whether the panels matched the specification on arrival, and how the supplier handled any issues.
