Placing a sample order before committing to a full project quantity is the most practical way to verify that a Chinese aluminum panel supplier’s production meets your specification. This guide explains what to order, how to evaluate what you receive, and what the results tell you about the supplier.

What to Order for a Sample

A useful sample order for insulated aluminum Great Wall panels is typically 50–100m² — enough to test one full panel length at your project’s required dimension, plus accessories. Specify:

Your exact panel length (eave-to-ridge dimension, or a representative length)
Your specified core thickness (e.g. 75mm or 100mm)
Your specified face gauge (0.7mm or 1.0mm)
Your specified coating (SMP or PVDF) and color (RAL 9003 white or your project color)
One ridge cap and one eave trim piece at the correct profile to match the panels
One box of EPDM-backed fasteners

Evaluating Core Thickness

When the panels arrive, the first check is actual core thickness. Use a digital caliper or steel ruler to measure the panel at the edge — the core should be within ±2mm of the specified thickness. A 75mm panel measuring 71mm has a shortfall of approximately 5%, which compounds across the full insulation performance calculation.

Evaluating Face Gauge

Aluminum face gauge is harder to measure without specialized equipment. The practical test is a stiffness check: grip the panel face at 500mm from the edge and apply moderate hand pressure. A 0.7mm face should not deflect noticeably. If the face springs back after slight hand pressure, the gauge is likely correct. A noticeably “tin-like” feel suggests under-gauge material.

Evaluating Coating Quality

Two practical tests for coating quality without laboratory equipment:

Cross-hatch adhesion test: Score a 10×10 grid of 1mm cuts through the coating using a sharp blade, then apply adhesive tape and pull off sharply. If coating squares lift off with the tape, adhesion has failed. Good PVDF coating shows zero lift-off.
Pencil hardness test: Draw firmly across the coated surface with a 2H pencil. The coating should not scratch. If it marks easily, the coating is under-cured or under-specified.

Evaluating the Interlocking Profile

Connect two panels together and check the interlocking male/female joint. The joint should click together with moderate hand pressure and hold without any fixings. There should be no gap visible at the joint when panels are connected. A loose or gapping joint means the roll-forming profile is out of tolerance — this will cause problems with weathertightness on the full installation.

Evaluating Documentation

A sample shipment is also a test of the supplier’s documentation quality. You should receive: commercial invoice and packing list in English, packing list showing bundle numbers and panel counts, material test report for the batch, and CCPIT Certificate of Origin if you requested it. Missing or poorly formatted documents on a sample order predict the same problems on a full order.
