Use aluminium composite panel (ACP) for flat decorative facades, solid aluminium panel for high-end or fire-critical facades that must be A2, and insulated sandwich panel where the wall or roof also has to insulate. They are three different products often confused because all are aluminium-faced. The short rule: ACP is the value facade skin, solid aluminium is the premium facade skin, and insulated panel is a structural, thermal envelope — not just a skin.
ACP — the value facade skin
ACP is two thin aluminium skins over a core. It is light, flat, cheap to fabricate into cassettes and comes in every RAL colour — the default for commercial facade cladding. Choose FR core for facades. Its limit: it is a skin, not insulation or structure, and PE-core versions are restricted on tall buildings.
Solid aluminium panel — the premium, fire-safe skin
Solid aluminium (2–4mm plate, PVDF coated) has no combustible core, so it meets A2/non-combustible facade requirements outright. It is stiffer and more durable than ACP, and preferred on prestige or high-rise projects, but heavier and more expensive. When a project demands non-combustible cladding and budget allows, solid aluminium wins.
Insulated sandwich panel — skin plus structure plus insulation
An insulated (Great Wall) panel bonds aluminium or steel faces to a PU/PIR or mineral-wool core 50–200mm thick. Unlike ACP, it spans, weatherproofs and insulates in one component — the right choice for warehouse and factory roofs and walls, cold stores and industrial buildings, where thermal performance matters more than a decorative flat facade.
