PVDF aluminium coil is colour-coated aluminium strip, supplied in rolls, used as the raw skin for aluminium composite panels, standing-seam roofing and facade profiles. The coating — PVDF (Kynar 500/Hylar 5000) — is what makes it hold colour for 15–20 years outdoors. China ships hundreds of thousands of tonnes a year, so ACP makers and roll-formers who buy coil directly cut cost versus finished panels. This is the highest-value input to source right, because a bad coil batch ruins every panel made from it.
Which gauge for which product
Match the coil to the end use. ACP skins are thin: 0.20–0.50mm, with 0.50mm for structural 4mm facade panels. Standing-seam and profiled roofing use thicker coil, 0.70–1.0mm, for span and walkability. Facade cassettes sit in between. Order the wrong gauge and the panel oil-cans or the roof dents — so specify gauge to two decimals.
Coating: PVDF is the one that lasts
For anything outdoors, PVDF (2-coat/2-bake, ~25–35 micron) is the standard; it resists UV chalking and salt. Polyester (PE) coating is cheaper but fades — keep it for interior. Ask for the coating thickness in microns, the number of coats, and the RAL/colour code. Consistent coil-set and colour batch matters most for ACP makers running long facade runs.
Alloy and temper basics
Most coated building coil is 3003 or 1100 alloy in H24/H26 temper — formable enough to roll and laminate, stiff enough to hold shape. For deeper profiles or springback control, temper matters; tell the supplier the forming you do and let them recommend. A real coil mill states alloy, temper, gauge tolerance and coating in the spec sheet.
Sourcing coil factory-direct
Coil is sold by tonnage, usually multi-tonne per colour. Send the mill your gauge, alloy, temper, coating type and micron, RAL colour, coil width and inner diameter, and monthly volume. Because export tax rebate on aluminium was removed in China from December 2024, price the coil without the old rebate, and check the destination country for anti-dumping duty on Chinese aluminium coil before you commit — the Gulf added measures on aluminium semis in 2025.
Frequently asked questions
What thickness of aluminium coil is used for ACP? ACP skins use 0.20–0.50mm coil, with 0.50mm for structural 4mm facade panels.
What coating should outdoor aluminium coil have? PVDF (Kynar/Hylar), 2-coat/2-bake around 25–35 micron, for 15–20 year colour retention.
What alloy is building aluminium coil? Usually 3003 or 1100 alloy in H24/H26 temper — formable yet stiff enough to hold shape.
Are there duties on Chinese aluminium coil? China removed its aluminium export rebate in Dec 2024, and some markets (including the GCC in 2025) apply anti-dumping duty — check the destination before ordering.
